Federal capital gains info
I am trying to file my 2006 federal income tax and i have a capital gains question. about 8 years ago, i bought a mutual fund and each year i have received a form 1099-DIV form from these folks and i entered the dividends into my tax forms and paid taxes on this. this year i cashed in the mutual fund and in addition to the 1099-DIV form with the information on dividends ( which i have entered each year into my tax forms as income) i also received a form 1099-B. this document shows information that has ALL of my gains since i bought the investment ( and have paid taxes on each year). the note above the "gains" on the form indicates that they have not reported it to the IRS. MY question is this. since i have already paid taxes each year on any investment gain ( have never lost money on any year on this investment) ido i report this aggregated gain all over again? i am not sure how to handle this. any help on this would be most appreciated!
