A 'batch' is defined as a set of transactions that have been packaged and are ready for final settlement. The 'batch' process is typically configured to happen once daily at a predetermined time (oftentimes this is set to the same time as the system's 'end of day' time to keep reconciliation less challenging).

if you are taking about computer stuff .. then.. In a computer, a batch job is a program that is assigned to the computer to run without further user interaction.... its a collection of commands ... extension of that file is .bat

Instead of processing transactions and updating a system real-time as the transactions occur, they simply store them up and run them as a big group at some later time.
