Short history; when Sam's club changed my Sam's club credit card to a
Discover card, I called to get the balance on the old card and paid that. The balance that the telephone recording gave me was off by 7 cents from what I actually owed. Weird in itself (the statement came the next day and showed the different amount). When the card changed, Sam's transferred 7 cents owed to my new card. So I owed Sam's Club Discover card 7 cents for several months. I hadn't used the card, so I decided to pay the bill, since I really owed it. Big mistake. MS Money 2003 Standard: I went to send the payment (From the "Manage Scheduled Bills and Deposits" screen, actually) by selecting Pay Online, and I got a message from MSN Money rejecting the payment as being "below the minimum for a payment" or some such (the actual text of the rejection message doesn't show up in the online call summary). But MS Money apparently thinks the payment sort-of was sent. Now the entry is stuck in my checking account register, in italics, for 0.07 payable to Sam's Club Discover. I can't delete the transaction; when I right-click it, delete is not a choice. It doesn't have a check number OR anything in that column; it doesn't say "Debit" or "EPay" or anything. And when I sent another epay to try to clear it out, this entry did not show up as a choice to send to MSN Bill Pay. Am I right in thinking that there will be no way to get rid of this thing, forever and ever, and I should go back to yesterday's online backup of my Money file? Has anyone else run across this? Is there some magic minimum amount for MSN Bill Pay that I didn't know about? (I know that processing a 7 cent payment might cost the banks more than 7 cents, but so would writing a check, and it would cost me 37 cents postage...) Ugh. If I go back to yesterday's file, should I enter the other epays that I made today, or just let them show up when they clear my bank? Thanks for any help or just commiseration. (Actually, I think Money 2003 might be the sweet spot -- it was before the ton of ad junk showed up in the product!) David Walker |

I'd say restore the previous backup. Re-enter the other epays but as direct
debits, not as epays. Let the real epays link to them when downloaded. Contact Sam's to see if they can draft your checking account for the amount, or simply charge a nominal amount of money to the Discover card to get it above MSN Money's minimum payment amount. -- Chris Cowles Gainesville, FL |
