The oldest thing in the book. The Rich Get Richer the poor get poorer. But are we doing something about it? Or is there actually something that can be done about it at all? I wonder.

We are so judgmental about rich people. I am glad to say it that I have great example of growing a rich person from the poorest with debt, no money, no opportunities. Sometimes great desire, knowledge and hard work can make a miracle.

The gap is widening because of our mindset. if rich people start thinking on the lines where they could not only take care of poor people but also make money then this gap can be reduced. This way rich and poor become an opportunity for each other not a burden. rich people invest in businesses and hire poor ones and poor people flourish those businesses with their smart work by generating revenue. This way poor will no more remain poor if avails the opportunity and rich will get richer. It can also help handle the recession.

There is one more quote that says "winners take all", showing the change in income share of the various percentile groups. The rich are taking a bigger and bigger piece of the American Dream, while most of us end up with a smaller and smaller piece every year. If this trend is allowed to continue I shudder to think of where we will be in the near future.

i think the government can play a crucial role in this regard. If there are employment opportunities out there, people will be able to have a better financial situation that can change their mindset to think positively. They will believe in their strengths and work hard to improve their living style. this will eventually open new avenues for poor to get rich.

Quote:
As a result, we would see the divide between the poor and rich still grow, no? I know you were not arguing this point, but I like the comment you made in that I believe that in every scenario, we will have poor and rich and the divide will exist and most likely continue to grow..IMO |

The #1 reason why the rich get richer and the middle class shrinks is that the top 1% of the rich control a huge amount of the total wealth, some say up to 51%. Money is power because it can buy political influence which can then be aligned to best suit your personal interests. This isn't illegal, you are allowed to make donations to the congressman who best suits your needs, but it does mean that the ultra-rich have much more influence available to them.

reply: I would not concern myself with the rich people of America. In order to make your own mark you need to concentrate on written down goals. Take a look at what it would take to be financially free and getting to be rich yourself.

I like this approach. There is too much envy in the world and people blame the rich for everything while secretly hoping to become rich. It's hypocritical, imo. AurelioLeo is right: best to concern oneself with finding a way to better one's own existence and become one of the rich.

Well, one should learn how the rich got there so that you can emulate/adopt and succeed.
