Can I simply install 2005 Standard over 2004 Deluxe? I never use the
extra features and the Standard was free.

Yes. But beware if one of the features you did use was Forecast Cash Flow.
It's not in Standard 05.

I would also argue that a free M05 cost you way too much. See

It is also possible to have both installed. Make an extra copy of
your Money 2004 file as Oliver5.ofx before install. During the
Money 2005 tell Money to not uninstall the existing Money
installation.

Let Money create a brand new file, so that the update gets
downloaded before conversion of your actual file. Once the version
shows as 14.0.*.1105, the conversion is done. File->Open
Oliver5.ofx.
