My wife has her own copy of money 2003 on her own computer. She downloads
monthly credit card transactions and then goes through each transaction and
assigns a category/subcategory. She prints out a monthly transaction report
and gives it to me.

I then pay it via an online bank and use split transactions to enter the
category/subcategory information manually. The transaction then shows up as
being a bank rather than credit card transaction in the reports.

As an attempt to avoid the manual transfer of information, she exported the
transactions to a gif file. I then import them to my money. One problem,
however. I am given the option to import them as a statement from my bank or
to import them as a new or recovered account. If I import them as a statement
from my bank, the category/subcategory information is lost. If I import them
as a new or recovered account, it imports existing as well as new transactions
thereby creating a bunch of duplicates.

Can anyone advise me as to how I might be able to get the transactions
from my wife's system to mine (Money 2003) without losing the
category/subcategory information and not having duplicates?

You could edit the file to remove the older transactions before
importing. If the transactions in the QIF file that she gives you
are in date order, that might not be too unwieldy.

You could even consider a little application in your favorite
programming language to strip the transactions before a specified
date.

That is my fall back solution. BTW, I said 2003 when I should have said 2004.
If the export is in post date order, it might be fairly quick to do so. Shame
Money is not a bit more intelligent about exports/imports or copy/paste from
one to the other.
