Take a look at the 5 day chart for ZP. Where do you think it's headed?
ZP is under valued. ZAP has more than .08 per share in cash and more than $27 million in assets. They have a product that is perfect for the environment of high oil prices.
ZP is up to .56 this morning. This is a good time to buy on it's way back up. 1 week ago ZP was half this in the .20s

Here's the news:
EPA Test Confirms Fuel Economy of Smart Car Americanized for ZAP at 40 MPG
Wednesday March 22, 12:31 pm ET
Mileage Rating Released in the March 22 Edition of USA Today
SANTA ROSA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 22, 2006--Automotive pioneer ZAP (PCX:ZP - News; NYSE Arca:ZP) announced today the results of fuel economy testing from the United States Environmental Protection Agency for the Smart Car Americanized for ZAP.
The 2005 model year Smart Car Americanized for ZAP is the nation's most fuel-efficient all-gas turbo-powered car with a fuel economy rating of 40 miles per gallon for city and freeway driving, according to the EPA testing lab in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It also ranks third overall behind two hybrid models according to the EPA's SmartWay(TM) Green Vehicle Guide (See www.fueleconomy.gov).
"I want to thank the shareholders and partners who have stood by us in this process, including G&K Automotive Conversions and Smart-Automobile LLC," said ZAP CEO Steve Schneider. "ZAP has worked so long and so hard and invested millions of dollars to reach this point and now we can all finally benefit from the fruits of our labor. This car is the right car at the right time and it's now the only micro-car available in the USA. I also want to send a special thanks to Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido for assisting in this process."
Schneider added that ZAP has delivered Smart Cars to dealers in Nevada, Arizona, Florida, Washington, New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania and with the recent release of 2005 model cars, other states will follow. Through its subsidiary, licensed automotive distributor Voltage Vehicles, ZAP is establishing a dealer network that specializes in smaller, more fuel-efficient gas systems, hydrogen, electric, fuel cell, alcohol, hybrid, trybrid and other innovative power systems.
ZAP has been also been in discussions to develop more new cars for its dealer network, and expects to introduce an all-electric 'City-Car' called the XEBRA(TM) this year and has contracted to distribute a Brazilian "trybrid" car under development that uses ethanol, gas and electricity. ZAP will continue to market a wide array of vehicles for personal transportation and off-road markets, including the manufacturing and distribution of electric scooters, bicycles, ATVs, dirt bikes, mopeds, motorcycles and more.

| The rebound finally came as ZP has turned around and had a record month of auto sales last month. Today ZP traded to a high of 3.60. That's not bad considering ZP was down to the .20s a few months ago. ZP is now listed back on the NASDAQ. Anyone else like this play on high oil prices and micro / electric cars? |

Here's some recent news:
Department of Energy Newsletter Reports on Trend Towards Smaller Cars Highlighting ZAP Alongside Honda
Automotive pioneer ZAP announced today that it has made one of the largest shipments of the Smart Car Americanized for ZAP -- one of the most efficient cars available -- to its licensed and authorized dealer in the Northwest, The Green Car Company. A celebration and open house are planned over the weekend in Kirkland, Washington.
With gas prices creeping up towards record highs across the country, a recent Department of Energy, Energy and Renewable Energy Website reported on the resurgence of smaller cars in the US, highlighting ZAP Micro-Cars alongside Honda, who pioneered fuel-efficient cars in the 1970's. "After many delays, ZAP is only now selling the 2005 Smart Car Americanized for ZAP, which complies with regulatory requirements in all but five states." See the report at http://www.eere.energy.gov/news/enn.cfm#id_9872.
"This car is on the cutting edge as far as fuel efficiency, and it makes sense for our company to introduce it to the Northwest," said Susan Fahnestock, co-owner of The Green Car Company. "The Green Car Company is committed to reducing CO2 emissions by vehicles and this car is certainly a step in the right direction."
ZAP, a publicly-owned company based in Santa Rosa, California, recently embarked on a cross-country rally to attend the New York International Auto Show during Earth Day April 22 as part of its marketing campaign to raise awareness about fuel-efficiency and micro-cars. To highlight skyrocketing gas prices, on Wednesday ZAP America rally drivers blogged about buying gas near Barstow, California, for $4.00 a gallon. Follow the rally at URL http://www.zapworld.com/blog.
The 2005 model year Smart Car is the nation's most fuel-efficient all-gas turbo-powered car with a fuel economy rating of 40 miles per gallon for city and freeway driving, according to the EPA testing lab in Ann Arbor, Michigan. A little more than eight feet long (four feet shorter than a Mini Cooper) you can back the car into a parallel parking spot and fit two into a normal space. The Smart Car is powered by a three-cylinder, 61 horsepower turbocharged, 6-speed engine with electronic "clutch-less" transmission, capable of 85 miles per hour. Three different models are available as coupes or cabriolets and can change colors in under an hour by swapping body panels.
Available throughout the world, this will be the first time US legal Smart Cars are available in the Northeast via a registered importer. ZAP is now able to offer the only micro-car available in the USA through its authorized dealer and service network. Smart Cars have now been delivered and sold to several ZAP authorized dealers around the country while the Company is ramping up distribution along with other cars that seek to target the micro-car niche with advanced technology vehicles. ZAP is introducing an all-electric 'City-Car' called the XEBRA(TM) this year and plans to introduce a "trybrid" sports car through a venture with a Brazilian manufacturer. The Company is creating a portal in the US for advanced technology vehicles that can help conserve energy and be friendlier to our environment.
On April 8, 2006, The Green Car Company will have a VIP and media presentation with vehicle demonstrations of Smart Cars and other cars, and on April 9 will have an Open House for the public. Located at 11630 Slater Avenue NE, Suite 3, Kirkland, WA 98034, The Green Car Company is the premier local source for biodiesel, electric and other environmentally friendly forms of transportation including a sneak preview of the ZAP XEBRA electric car as well as other vehicles. In addition to being a certified service center for the Smart Car, The Green Car Company has a state of the art "green" repair facility as well as a biodiesel fueling station.

It's the Fuel Economy, Stupid |

By Lawrence Carrel Published: April 28, 2006
SOARING GASOLINE PRICES are playing right into the hands of Steven Schneider. The chief executive of ZAP (ZP: 1.99, -0.04, -2.0%) is counting on growing pain at the pump to convince drivers to fork over $25,000 for a Smart car, the fuel-efficient vehicle that can squeeze out 40-plus miles from a gallon of unleaded. Popular in Europe, Smart cars only recently started selling in the U.S.
Environmentally conscious — not to mention gas-price conscious — Americans have ZAP to thank for making the diminutive ride available at all. DaimlerChrysler (DCX: 54.89, -1.45, -2.6%), the manufacturer of Smart cars, doesn't sell them here. The German-American automobile maker felt it wasn't economically feasible to modify Smart cars to meet more stringent U.S. standards. Much to Daimler's chagrin, ZAP found a way to do it. As a result the Santa Rosa, Calif.-based company has a lock on the nascent market — at least for now.
"I think market sentiment is shifting to smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles," says Dennis Virag, president of the Automotive Consulting Group, a strategic consultant to the automotive industry based in Ann Arbor, Mich. "And the Smart car is an extremely well-executed vehicle for urban areas. I think it will do well among both the younger and older generations."
Investors seem to agree. ZAP's stock has surged more than sevenfold in 2006. Granted, the shares started off the year at 28 cents apiece, but indications the 12-year-old company is finally ready to mass-market Americanized versions of Smart cars in the U.S. are fueling confidence in the business plan. ZAP's market capitalization sits at about $67 million.
ZAP, short for "zero air pollution," helped pioneer the electric-scooter and motorbike industry and eventually moved into electric-powered all-terrain vehicles. Yet, its goal was always to sell environmentally friendly, advanced-technology cars. While Smart cars are neither electric nor hybrid, their internal-combustion engines use unleaded gas — and, some models, diesel — more efficiently. ZAP claims its modified Smart cars can accelerate up to 85 miles per hour.
It hasn't been an easy road for ZAP, which spent the past four years working to make the Smart car compliant with U.S. regulations. It received an initial stamp of approval from the Environmental Protection Agency in November 2004. On Dec. 6, 2004, ZAP's shares hit $5.03. By February 2005, ZAP began setting up its distribution network. CEO Schneider says ZAP quickly garnered $2 million worth of orders for the Americanized Smart cars.
The euphoria was short-lived. Since the orders exceeded ZAP's capacity at the time, Schneider says he approached DaimlerChrysler about working together to bring the cars to market. ZAP had been purchasing Smart cars from third-party suppliers and making the modifications itself. Daimler, which recall had already declared the business plan unfeasible, balked at the partnership offer. As word of Daimler's rejection spread, ZAP's stock price tanked.
According to Joe DeMatio, senior editor of Automobile magazine, Daimler wasn't going to admit it was wrong about the ability to get the cars up to U.S. standards profitably. "This was a bit of an embarrassment for Daimler," he says.
In October, ZAP sued DaimlerChrysler, claiming the auto giant employed anticompetitive tactics to discredit ZAP. The company is seeking $4 billion in damages. The case is pending.
"We don't actively prevent them from selling the Smart car," says Daimler spokesman Han Tjan. "Anyone is free to sell what they want." |
