Money 2001 - Stock symbol changes, continuity lost |
|
|
Every so often, my stocks change their exchange symbols, sometimes because
they have changed their names, sometimes just for fun.
When this happens, any graph of historical price is terminated, and a new
one is started. It is very annoying! there must, one might thimk, be some
way of altering the symbol in whatever database Money is using, in order
that continuity can be established.
Even the FTSE symbol was recently changed, causing me to have an apopleptic
fit (nearly).
Does anyone know how to solve this - in Money2001!?

When this happens, are you downloading an AddShares of a security
with the new symbol (I will call AddedOne), and a RemoveShares of
the security with the new symbol (RemovedOne)?
What has been working for me is to tell Money that AddedOne is
already in my account with a different name -- the name I have been
using. Now if you then try to tell Money that RemovedOne is the
same also, you will get into a repeating loop. Instead say that
RemovedOne is a fake stock I keep around for the purpose: ZZZ1.
In later versions, you can also say that the transaction is Void at
the same time. Otherwise just go back and Void both the AddShares,
the RemoveShares, and look for an additional AddShares to delete
that Money might have inserted.
Things might work differently in Money 2001. The data your broker
sends may differ from what I get. So this may not solve it for you.
Plus, you have to do it at the time of download, and need to be
ready with a bogus investment like ZZZ1. If it does not work for,
there is a more complex solution. |
