We are using Quickbooks Premiere Edition 2003 and we are getting this
error message each time a second user tries to open our company
file:""z:\filename".QBW is not a Quickbooks data file or it is
damaged."
This means that only one user at a time can open the company file. All
users have full rights on the directory where file resides. All users
are also local administrators of there own workstations. After many
hours on the phone with Intuit tech support I realized that the
obviously never heard of that problem,(they asked me to be reboot the
server or to uninstall terminal services from it (wich is almost
impossible to obtain in a production environment) Though one tech
suggested that I try to copy file on different location. Still I got
the same error. After a while I realized that if an account with domain
admin rights logs in to the network and opens the file first (just
getting to the login prompt, without login in) all users are able to
access file perfectly... Of course I would prefer not to give domain
admin rights to accounting staff...
Any ideas on how to fix this?
(Thanks a lot!)

From what I read in this NG, Quickbooks is incompatible with all common
network security practices, "and damn proud of it." Your fix is to give
them domain admin rights. Perhaps it is cheaper to put the data file on
another computer without any other stuff on it so the staff can't snoop or
muck up the main server for the rest of the company?
