Exporting a QIF File |

I have Quicken Deluxe 2003 and would like to use my data on my new
macintosh. To do so I have to export the quicken data to a qif file.
When I go throught the steps that are supposed to work, nothing happens.
No file is created. I sent quicken an e-mail and they suggested I call
a number and talk to a specialist since they supposedly have a
conversion service available. Unfortunately I can't even start talking
without giving them a credit card number and 24.95 to find out how much
it will cost to convert my data. I'm hoping that perhaps someone has a
suggestion as to what may be causing my data not to export. I tried to
export it to both a hard disk and to a usb flash drive. it failed in
both cases. later I tried it again and it told me that it failed
because I had removed the flash drive, which was true. So the program
is apparently seeing something before refusing to write the data.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated especially since I've
already bought the quicken for mac software and don't relish the
prospect of entering several thousand transactions by hand.

A couple of thoughts, though nothing obvious suggests itself.
1.) The problem is with the export process. Possibly you did
something wrong or perhaps the process can't handle your file
(too many records?). You didn't spell out the steps you took,
so perhaps you did miss something. And how many transactions do
you have?
2.) The problem is with the data. Perhaps some data corruption
is interfering. You could try Validating/super-validating your
data. You could also try renaming your QDATA.QPH file (price
history). That file can get very large and it can get corrupted
and validate virtually never finds corruption in the price
history file. Renaming is sort of a first step to see if either
corruption in the price history, or just too much price history
is part of the problem: if either is true, some other decisions
would need to be made. If renaming changes nothing, you rename
it back and forget the price history angle.

FYI, I finally solved the problem. I tried everything I could think of
including validating, super-validating, and year-end-copy to try and
break out enough of the file to create the QIF file. Finally in
desperation, I installed Q2K3 on my mac under virtual pc and restored a
backup of the data that I had made this morning in hopes of transferring
the data. Then I exported the data and created the qif file with no
problem. I'm clueless as to why it worked. Maybe I should join
Intuit's technical support team :)
