Hello all,

Is it possible to have two versions of MS Money run simultaneously on my
computer? when I installed Money 2004 Deluxe, it over wrote my existing
version. But currently I'm in the process of setting up a new home based
business and want to buy Money Small Business.

Will these two programs work at the same time; where money deluxe
automatically opens my personal finance information (as it does now), and
Money Small Business opens my business files?

thanks so much,
Shhhh

No. You can have versions from different years installed at the same
time, but you can only run one at a time.

However Money Small Business can also convert your personal file,
and you can access either file with Money Small Business. The list
of least-recently-used files at the bottom of the File menu is a
good way to switch back and forth.

Does the Small biz prg use the same file extension as the regular money program (*.mny) ?
THAT's what determines what app opens the file. if bith have .mny then only one will open it BY DEFAULT.
You can edit it in Tools-Folder Options and scroll down to MNY file type.

I run M2001 and M2004, but I keep them separate. In general, BEFORE YOU UPGRADE, copy the data file from the default Money folder
to - someplace else, because WHEN you upgrade, it will "covert" your old mny file to the latest version and there's no going back.
Install the new version into another folder C:\Prg Files\M2006 for example
Then overwrite the new / empty .mny file in the 2006 folder with your old one.
The first time you run SB2006, it will sense old data and upgrade it for you to 2006 format.
You will still then have your original - where it was, and the new mny file - in the new folder.
And they'll both work fine. Worst case, rather than just doubleclicking the filename, you'll have to start the app first. I have
both Money shortcuts on my deskstop - I pick either and it opens its own file.
Also pay attention when you backup Money - put each in its own folder with a different name (M2004 and M2006 for example)

Yes.

In addition to your other suggestions, he could have separate
shortcuts to each file if he does not care to start with the most
recently used.
