How do i balance (reconcile) an investment account to my statement?

I know, or at least belive I understand, how to do this with my
checking account, but how about an IRA or 401K account?

Also, when adding a new account transaction in the Account Register,
the pull-down menu lists all the investments that I entered. How do I
edit this list, correct for misspellings, or delete investmenst I
don't use?

Thanks

You don't. Money doesn't provide any direct support for balancing an
investment account.

a1) What you can do is go to the a) Portfolio page, poke in the date of your
statement, and compare share balances and holdings to the statement, and b)
go to the investment account register and mark transactions off the
statement or other confirmations as Reconciled (Ctrl+Shift+M), and c) for
non-retirement investment cash accounts, you can balance these to the
statements.

a2) On the portfolio page there is a link on the left to work with
investments (IIRC, M05/6 have changed this somewhat) that lets you pick a
specific investment to edit where you can change names, etc. There is a
similar link somewhere in that neighborhood to "delete" obsolete investments
you have no holdings of. But beware: an investment is never really
"deleted". IF you think you might reuse the name and/or the symbol in the
future in another investment, special care must be taken. Basically, before
deleting, rename it something benign and remove or change the symbol to
something useless (obsolete.msft). If someone doesn't dive in with more
specific paths to this in M06, I'll get one tonight.

If you are talking about the Investment Account itself (and not the
individual investments, such as mutual funds or money market funds) within
it, you can balance the Cash Account (if there is one) attached to the
investment account. I believe that by default 401K accounts have an
attached Cash Account, so you probably have it. On your investment account
register page, click on "Cash Transactions" on the left hand side of the
page. That will get you to the Cash register page. On the left hand side
click on "More Cash Tasks >" and then on "Balance This Account" from the
pull out menu.

I believe if you "Balance" a cash account for a retirement/401k you get the
401k Manager Wizard which has been useless or worse for almost a decade now
not the Balance Account Wizard. I could be corrected as I haven't tried it
in a number of versions now.

Sorry, I could be wrong myself. I do not have a 401K plan. I had a 457
Plan later converted to an IRA, but in neither case did I use the Cash
Account feature. I only have the Cash Account with my taxable brokerage
account and made my comments assuming the the balance feature was the same
in both type of investment accounts.

It seems so obvious that it should be. Last I checked, it wasn't.
