J.P. Morgan Chase bank changes |
|
|
I just got a message from JP Morgan Chase Bank that we need to make changes
to our setup in order to continue getting their downloads for Money. The
instruction are 12 pages long (in PDF format) and seem rather complicated
and involve canceling our existing on-line accounts with Chase. There is no
explanation at all about why they are making these changes. Does anyone
know (or can figure out) what is going on? Links to the instructions can be
found at
http://www.chase.com/cm/cs?pagename=Chase/Href&urlname=shared/crb/page/QuickenMoneyJan.jsp
..Thanks

Well, the title says "JP Morgan Chase to Chase". So whether it is a
rebranding, or has a lot more going on, I don't know.
The directions seem unusually clear, and to describe it as 12 pages
of instructions does not seem to fit what I saw. There were a lot of
screen capture pictures, and the type is large. |

Bob,
The instructions are nothing more than an explanation of the process of
disabling and then re-enabling online services setup for your bank within
Money. It includes measures to insure any scheduled bill payments are
minimally impacted.
Anytime a bank makes changes that impact your direct online access within
Money to your accounts, it is usually necessary to perform these procedures.
It is not as complicated as it may seem.
I suspect that the changes for JPM are a function of the recent integration
of Bank One with Chase. Even if one didn't have any accounts with Bank One,
the combined online systems ususally impact all account holders. This is
only conjecture though.
It appears from the instructions that when you re-enable online services
within Money, you will be using the user ID and password that you also use to
login to the website. Is this what you used previously to setup access?
I've seen banks change the login requirements for Money access thus requiring
this type of procedure.
To make the process easier, I would recommend that, if possible or
applicable, make the change during a period when all or most of your bill
payments through Chase have just cleared. That way it is just a matter of
disabling and then immediately re-enabling online services with the new
login. Good Luck!
Regards,
JB

Thank you both. It would have been very helpful, however, if, for all the
trouble they took to put together the instructions, Chase had bothered to
include a paragraph stating exactly what JB said. In other words, "this is
what you need to do and this is how to do it" (as opposed to just "this is
how to do it"). In the automated phone call that directed me to this web
page, Chase indicated that they will also be sending us a letter.
Hopefully, that letter will be more informative.
To answer JB's questions: I never used a user ID to get my on-line updates.
The password that I use is the same password that I set in Money96 (which
product was given to me free by the bank--at that time Chemical Bank) and
that has been retained automatically though all the upgrades up to my
current use of M2K5. It is not the same as the one I use for the Chase
On-Line site. The original Money96 access was by phone line direct to their
server, not via the Internet.

Technical documentation always seems perfectly clear to the person who wrote
it. I'm sure it was done in good faith and, if Cal's assessment is accurate,
it was done well. Unfortunately, no technical writer can anticipate every
possible interpretation of what they wrote. I'm not in any way suggesting
you're dense - only that the way you read it was not anticipated by the
writer. Otherwise their language probably would have addressed your
questions.
