Money2006, how to assign category to multiple entries? |
|
|
Hi,
I use my credit card to do most of my shopping and what I do when I get
home I just pay it thru my online bank.
I've been slacking these past months because of job related issues and
yesterday I downloaded the ofx file from my online bank to money 2006.
When I go to my account in money I see all those payments correctly
assigned to the right payee, but for some reason money did not assign
the category "credit card payment : Mastercard"
I have a ton of them and I dont feel doing it manually.
Is there a way for me to assign that category to all the entries at
once and have money assign it every time a new entry is created from
ofx???
This applies to other entries as well, but I am able to correct them as
the category is available to be chosen when multiple entries are
selected and I choose the "change category" option.
But any category that falls under the special is not available.
Thanks

For transactions that don't use special categories, Find and Replace works
well for your purpose. It seems that you can't use it with special
categories, but you can at least to locate them and change them manually.
It's not that hard to do. Just how many transactions is "a ton"?
Once you've revised some downloaded transactions before accepting them,
Money remembers future transactions for the same payee and categorizes them
like the most recent.

You confirmed what I suspected that there is no way to do it with
special categories.
When I said a ton I am talking about 300 or so. As I said I did slack
keeping money up to date and these transactions
pilled up.

Use the Find function, specifying criteria that groups them together by
credit card. Copy the special category ("credit card payment: bankname") to
your clipboard. Edit the transactions selected by double-clicking with your
mouse, right-click on the category field, paste. It's a manual process, but
using a method something like that will save a lot of keystrokes.
Revise the Find criteria for each credit card account.

payee usually leaving them blank from ofx file.
If I do enter a transaction manually I just need to type the payee and
category is filled automatically.

That's puzzling. In Tools> Settings> Online Service Settings, have you
checked "Replace downloaded payee name with user-altered names when
available."? That may be beneficial.
