Browse the
"microsoft.public.sba.general"
newsgroup in the
"msnews.microsoft.com"
news server.
You'll learn that SBA has a much better interface than QB and a friendlier
database to access externally. You'll also learn that SBA does not have all
the bells-and-whistles (features) of QB nor anywhere near the variety of
online banking accesses of QB. |

No I haven't. But it's a lead pipe cinch all software has |
bugs, all micro$oft software has more bugs than the CIA.
I made the mistake of buying some Micro$oft software that
when initially release had 65,000 documneted bugs
(or undocumented features.)
Also when I do try it I will make sure it is on a system that
is not running Quickbooks/MYOB/or other acconting software
since I don't trust Micro$oft to sabatoge the other accounting
software.

Yes, I've been using it for a year now (since last Nov) and it's great.
At the end of the day, accounting is accounting. There are always
subtle differences between applications and that's fine. It's the
stuff beyond the accounting that can really make a difference. HeyBub
mentions two of the best things about SBA
1) The interface: it doesn't have any funky behaviors like some of the
stuff in QB (back button on your invoice form like a browser) no, it
has real lists and works like other every other windows application. In
short, it's predictable.
2) The ability to get at the data -- whether it's using Excel, Outlook,
Word, or Access, you can do an amazing amount of stuff once you can get
at the data. ...And it's baked right into SBA -- there is no
programming or database work unless you want to significantly extend
what is provided.
Here is one example:
http://sba2006.blogspot.com/2005/09/sba-analysis-tools.html
Hope this helps.

You sound like an idiot. Why do people that do not have a clue think that
they somehow gain creditability if they bash Microsoft? Why do people think
they are cute if they add an $ to anything that pertains to Microsoft. Its
so boring and totaly played out. We get it, Microsoft's incredible sucess
pisses you off.

The ability of SBA to work with the other Office products has been touted
wildly in the SBA literature. What's really odd is the fact that most of the
competition has had this ability for years. One of the reason's Microsoft's
Office Suite has become the defacto standard is because it is open to other
applications like QuickBooks. Microsoft has made all the tools required for
this intergration available to one and all. Go ahead and see for yourself.
Open up Quickbooks and export a report to Excel. |

I was using Stacker when Microsoft succeeded in puting them

Microsoft should not be in business and Bill Gates should

Sure, but the point is that *pervasive* in SBA, not just in reports. In
SBA, you can export just about anything to Excel with the click of a
button: in addition to all reports, the customer list, the invoice list
(QB doesn't even have one), every other list in the product,
timesheets, budgets, etc. and they're all formated with the right
colors, fonts, formula, etc that you find when you view them in the
application. In short, I couldn't ask for more.
They added lists for most transactions in QB 2006 (finally!), but
sharing the data with other apps like Excel is an afterthougth. You
have to right click on the list, select "view as report" and then
export the resulting report to Excel -- it takes 4 clicks! Personally,
I like a toolbar button that does it in one click.

Bear in mind with all accounting software they make it very easy
to import your data, they pruposely make it IMPOSSIBLE TO
EXPORT THE DATA INTO ANOTHER PROGRAM.
If you go and buy a competing program they want you to spend
the better part of a year importing from the old program to the
new one. They may or may not provide an easy mechanism to
do it.
I've had too many software packages over the years ang
spent the better part of a year moving to a new accounting
package.
Add to that the bugs (all programs have bugs, they just
don't tell you about them in advance) and when push comes
to shove and something happens with the bugs/the program/etc.
my neck is the one that is on the line with management.
So right now i'm very hesitant to try any Microsoft accounting
package. I could easily see them putitng Intuit/MYOB/etc.
out of businsss and forcing you to stay with a badly designed
Microsoft accounting package. Or you know what could be
even worse? Microsoft puts Intuit and othes out fo business
and then gets out of the accounting software business.
I've ben railroaded into too many orphaned
computers/software/etc. over the years. and
I trust Microsoft to screw the consumer.
I would add i've had software packages that sold for
$1400.00 A MODULE that once you bought that
module you found 1. how limited it was 2.
how many bugs it had. 3. how the developer
discontinued support and 4. how impossilbe it
was to get your information out of the orphaned
package and into a new package.
For my $1400 I got to spend the better part of
a year moving my inforamtion from the modules
(AR, AP, OE, GL) to a new software package.)
Right now i'm using Quick Books and while i'm
not completely satisfied with it i'm not ready to
swtich to anything else. Becausae you know
what? I'm not convinced that a few years down
the road when Microsoft puts the competitoion out
of business and then gets out of the accounting
business itself that I'll be faced with a choice
1. using a very old version of xxxxx package..
or 2. use somehting I have to put together in
excel/123/dbase/access.
The bottom line: when something goes wrong and
management gets angry it is my neck that is on the
line NOT MICROSOFT, INTUIT, ETC.

Do you really think the average QB user would migrate to SBA for a few less
clicks? Do you think the average QB user even cares about the export
features in either program? If you do then you are mistaken.
Don't get me wrong, I like SBA but it's not the only kid on the block that
works well with the office suite.
