Well, You have to remember these companies, especially on the Nasdaq,
never use to pay a dividend. They usually put a large portion of profits
back into R&D ... or paid their CEOs' and CFOs' and other top-notch
employees with stock options.

Also, they used their stock to purchase other companies in most cases
during the boom era.

Now that they're a more mature company in their business cycle, they're
paying a dividend now, and just increased it ala Microsoft.

You won't have the explosive growth anymore, but you'll get the steady
income from dividends from the shares you bought.
