Items to review (#) Aren't in Register, manual QFX download |
|
|
I have read several post concerning an issue with Money 2006 and manually
downloading the QFX file from a bank or credit card company. This seems to
be a bug in the new version of the software.
Accounts that are updated from within Money 2006 seem not to be effected.
The problem is when I manually download a QFX file from my local bank (no its
not just a citibank problem) on the accounts page I see "Transactions to be
read: #". If I go to the account register page for that account, I see
"Items to review: (#)". The bank balance at the top of the register is
correct, but the local balance at the bottom of the register is incorrect and
reflects the total minus the imported items. The imported items to be read
do not show up in the register and can not be accepted, reconciled, etc.
I spent 2 hours on the phone with tech support and tried everything that I
have seen in the other posts and then some... I still have not been able to
resolve the issue. MS does have a KB article on the matter, but it too gives
no solution to the problem.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829143 (full article at the bottom)
I upgraded from Money 2005 to Money 2006 Deluxe. As you will see even
starting from a fresh data file does nothing.
Here is what I tried:
-clearing temp internet files
-clearing windows temp files
-re-exported the QFX file from my bank
-money data file repair, quick, then standard, then quick again (as
suggested by tech support)
-uninstalled Money 2006 and rebooted twice
-disabled firewall and antivirus
-reinstalled Money 2006 and made a brand new blank data file
-again exported the QFX file from my bank, still has same problem in the
account register
-repaired the file again with no change
-fresh install on my laptop (second machine) with anivirus disabled
-exported the QFX file again
-SURPRISE, the same problem on a totally different machine
To everyone here with the same issue, MS needs to confirm the issue as a bug
and make a fix for it. Trying all the suggested solutions from this
newsgroup, the MS knowledgebase, and MS tech support does not fix the issue.
In a rush to get out the newest build of the Money software, 2006, they put
out a bug ridden version. Personally, I purchased the software basically
free after rebates, so I am out no real dollars, minus tax of course. It's
doubtful that I will be able to return the software since it has been opened.
I would most likely receive an exchange for the same thing.
Personally, I do not really see any big advantage in using the 2006 version
and the 2005 version I already had. There were a few new sounds, but I feel
that the software update was mainly to more closely integrate the software it

SYMPTOMS
When you try to download a statement from your financial institution by
using one of the programs that is listed in the "Applies To" section, you may
experience one of the following symptoms: • You receive the following error
message:
This action is only valid for products that are currently installed.
• After you download online statements from your financial institution,
Microsoft Money indicates that there are statements to be read. However, you
may not be able to view the downloaded transactions in the account register.
The transactions are not visible in the account register.
• The download process appears to work correctly, but the statement does not
open.
Note You do not receive an error message, and the Web site does not stop
responding.
• You are prompted for a program to open the downloaded file.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs if any one of the following conditions is true: • The
size of temporary Internet files is over the Amount of disk to use setting in

Where your bank or credit card has OFX files available, use that
instead of QFX files. Citibank has OFX files available. Use that.
Have you tried saving the file to disk, and then doing File->Import

For Citibank, you want to specify OFX rather than QFX. The file name
should default to multi.ofx. I would suggest saving it with a name
such as multi080830.ofx . While it is possible to not save it
explicitly to disk first, do save it to for now.
In your file, each account should have a <BALAMT> entry. That is the
number that is displayed at the top of the register, left and right.
The number at the bottom of the register is computed from the
entries in the register.

Yes I have saved it to disk and imported it... NO difference. The same

I never said I made a new account. I said I created a new data file. By
this I mean I went to file>new>new file and created a new money data file.
This is a bug in the software not a problem with my installation or bank. I
and many others are facing this issue. So if you do not work for MS and can
not admit that this is a bug, Please do not reply with more things to try.
There is nothing that you are going to suggest that has not been tried
already.

And let me emphasize: if you really want to REPORT A BUG and ***maybe*** get
Microsoft to care and ***even more maybe*** to get them to issue a fix
before M08 or M09, your only even decent hope is TO OPEN A SUPPORT CASE
DIRECTLY WITH MICROSOFT. SHOUTING here will do very little if anything to
achieve these ends. Open a support case by following the yellow click road

I do realize this is a public forum. By reiterating what is already stated
in the original post only makes the thread long and drowned out. The thread
was meant to inform people that there is indeed a BUG in the software and
that they are not the only ones experiencing this problem. It also shows all
of the suggested fixes and from both other posts in this forum and from MS
themselves. So now I will state it once more….

This is not a microsoft run forum even if you posted from microsoft's

come and ask each other questions and get help. Reporting a bug

Have you looked in the OFX file itself?
It's possible that the OFX file is incompleted (or not correct based upon
the OFX specs)
One possibility is that the transactions do not have unique Transaction IDs
Especially if the same behavior occurs in a new file.

A support case has already been opened with Microsoft concerning the issue.
When I originally saw the issue, I came here first and other online sources
to try and find a solution. I saw multiple posts here and elsewhere all
being similar. Someone posts the problem and someone else says hey try this
and this and this...
I just wanted to infor others that ther is a bug in the software and that
all of the posted solutions to try do not work. I don't want to debate
anything with anyone. Just wanted to prvent others from wasting a lot of
time trying all of the suggested solutions only to endup with the conclusion
that they do not work. Thus, the only thing left would be that there is a
bug in the software.
And yes to Mark's question. The OFX file is fine and in the proper format.
I even tried to manually download a OFX file from one of my credit cards, and
that too had the same error.

I don't remember, did you mention which financial instituition this OFX file
is from?
It seems to be more likely a problem with the OFX file/format than with
Money, otherwise there would be a much larger number of users complaining.
If you are willing to share that OFX file (clean it up to remove account
numbers, and change payee names and amounts, if you wish), the others can
take a look at it to see if they can identify what may be wrong with the OFX
file.
Microsoft also has an ofx analyzer, that "may" identify the problem at the
bottom of the FI Tools page:

Microsoft to care and ***even more maybe*** to get them to issue a fix
before M08 or M09, your only even decent hope is TO OPEN A SUPPORT CASE
DIRECTLY WITH MICROSOFT. SHOUTING here will do very little if anything
to
achieve these ends. Open a support case by following the yellow click
road
from http://support.microsoft.com. There you can click on "Select a
product
to view your assisted support options".
Support costs Microsoft real Money. Causing them to spend this real
money is
one of the only ways to get their attention.

No problem. In the post it stated that there is a bug... I would
think
that
means that I don't need help and that there was a BUG...

Thanks Mark. I had noticed that page when I was search for something
else but had not bookmarked it. I have help several of my Financial
Institutions (FI) figure out what they were doing wrong. I agree with
you that dscrap appears to only want to vent while we are interested in
trying to help him. I have not had a bad OFX file for two versions on
Money and it has always been the FI's problem. i still manually download
from several FI's and I know that if MS had a problem on their side of
the interface it would break so many FI's that we and they would hear
about it immediately.

A support case has already been opened with Microsoft concerning the
issue.
When I originally saw the issue, I came here first and other online
sources
to try and find a solution. I saw multiple posts here and elsewhere all
being similar. Someone posts the problem and someone else says hey try
this
and this and this...
I just wanted to infor others that ther is a bug in the software and that
all of the posted solutions to try do not work. I don't want to debate
anything with anyone. Just wanted to prvent others from wasting a lot of
time trying all of the suggested solutions only to endup with the
conclusion
that they do not work. Thus, the only thing left would be that there is a
bug in the software.
And yes to Mark's question. The OFX file is fine and in the proper
format.
I even tried to manually download a OFX file from one of my credit cards,
and
that too had the same error.

Still no solution from MS or my bank... Here is a copy of the OFX file with
account #'s x'ed out. There are a few transactions, not many in the OFX
file, it is primarily my internet account and funds are regularly transfered
out.
I downloaded the OFX analyzer and the file has passed... Not sure what else
to do. Its is becoming a real pain to enter in all the transactions
manually. Any ideas?
Thanks!
