It could happen. If it does, nincompoops (TM) who voted their hate over
their pocketbooks may end up bearing the burden at the great benefit of us
mimfers. Gotta love the confederacy of the fiscal and social conservatives.

What changes must the Democrats make to win the next national
election?

What the Dems need to do to win the next national election, has little
to do with economics.

That's a hard lesson for Dems to learn, because they're used to
elections before 9-11, in which "It's the economy, stupid."

It's not anymore. Times are changing.
News reports from Ohio showed that thousands of Ohio residents who had
gotten laid off and unemployed under Bush, voted for Bush.

They don't seem to mention too much about abolishing capital gains tax. But
it seems like everything is up for grabs ;-)

I think they'll have to be born again and back the gay marriage amendment.

(I'm hearing that Juliani will be born again before 2008 election).

Seriously, I think they only need to stay as fiscally responsible and
socially moderate party that they are. Not all church-goers are religious
fanatics who vote automatically for their ayatollah, and they'll remain
politically rational as long as they are not ticked off. I think this
election was an exception rather than a rule, tipped over by the anger over
9/11 and gay marriage.

Bush's disdain for dividend/capital gains tax is well known. I think they

are a good bet to be on the chopping block if the reform takes place.

There probably is a way to make sales/flat tax to work (eg, tax-free up to
$40k, 30% above). It remains to be seen if they have simplicity in mind, or
tax cut for the rich.

Actually, I'm thinking that the Democrats in theory would need to
make no policy changes at all, because the election was certainly
close enough that the *personality* of the candidate would matter
more than the policies he (she?) represents. If Clinton had been
running, for instance, I would place large bets that he would
have won. A good schmoozer would have easily bridged the popular
vote gap and likely the electoral gap too. Charisma would carry
the day over more substantial things.

Anyway, speaking of possible changes, Democrats have moved so far
to the center in recent decades that they really don't have much
more room to move before they become Republicans anyhow. Of
course, the Republicans are also moving to the right
(disconcerting some traditional conservatives) so it's a moving
target.

This is on the national level. On the state and local level, and
in Congress, things get a lot more complicated.

Disagree. Same thing. "What will you do for me?", only on a more personal
level.

Sorry, you are right. I'll go write a USA Today article as a punishment.

Why neither!!! Isn't it Ghouliani???? He's the man that blamed our troops, in

an effort to relieve der Bush from responsibility, for not guarding weapons
which likely are now being used to kill our own military!!!
