Default Student loan debts = big problem

http://www.moneysavingfreetips.com/s...oan-debts.html

"Graduating seniors who just finished their degrees on average carry debts of $19,000 or more. On the other hand, medical graduate students carry debts in the range $19,000 - $105,000 (Source: Department of Education).

Tuition fees have risen 32% at 4 year private colleges whilst they have risen by 41% at public universities and colleges. Average accomodation and board and room fees at private colleges cost $29000 at private colleges while costing $12000 at public institutions."

What really eerks me is students are no longer given very favorable interest rates. It use to be student loans didn't matter because the interest was so low. Not the case anymore!

Settle by making an offer much less than the debt. It works..

Get a settlement agreement and enter it with thte courts so it shows at resolved.

Bank will not work unless you end up totally disabled and on your death bed, it has been tried, you will not be able to bank on student loans. If so you are almost dead and who cares at that point.

I will bet the first to say, it IS a big problem. I had actually looked at personal loans to help pay for my sons tuition, because of the competitive rates.

It is funny though, my son started a website in order to help me out, does this type of thing hold any financial viability? That is the link to his website below:

Nobody wants to be saddled with too much debt, unfortunately many university graduates are faced with that proposition. Eventually, additional types of loans will need to be considered including loans for a new car or a first home; having student loan debt on top of it all of that can make it very difficult to make payments on that new car or house.
There are some options you need to know about at this point in the student loan repayment game. These options include:

A Direct Consolidation Loan – Thankfully, you can consolidate these loans into one payment to just one lender saving the hassle of sending out multiple payments throughout the month.

Variable Repayment Plans – Unlike the standard student loan, borrowers can elect to repay their students loans by choosing a variety of repayment plans.

Luckily, I only had about $3,000 in student loan debt by the time I finished college. Now that I'm continuing as a graduate student, though, I'm sure that debt will expand. But, I consider student loans a worthwhile investment.

Are you sure about this? I am pretty sure that student loans are treated differently than most debt. There used to be rules like you could not even declare student loans in a bankruptcy to get out of paying them.

But it's been a while since I checked into it. It may have changed.

A friend of mine said "education is not for everyone" and he even said "education is for the wealthy"

While I don't fully agree with him on the second part, I do acknowledge that some people who don't have college funds, scholarship, grant, or any sort of financial help should work their way through school and not obsess so much with "when to graduate"

There is no benefit in "graduating on time" if you have no job experiance and you owe a ton of money.
